A 'Tru' Day in Class

The relationships between pros and their sponsors are traditionally kept pretty secret, but BassFan learned about a cool deal that happened last Sunday in conjunction with the Toho Bassmaster Elite Series. Fish Harder Companies (better known as Tru-Tungsten and Picasso) gathered its pros at the Quality Inn in Kissimmee, Fla. for its first-ever "pro training class."

The idea was to get all the pros in one room to talk about new baits – how to fish them, and how to talk about them. Pro staff members Mike Wurm and Aaron Martens made the Top 12 cut at Toho and couldn't attend.

President Tim Gregory and pro-staff Manager Tom Branch, Jr. instructed attendees on the Fish Harder product line – going over each product in detail and then discussing the positives and negatives of the products with the pros' input. The final 30 minutes of the class was dedicated to new products for 2008, many of which hadn't been seen yet.

A few notable comments from the pros:

  • Mike Iaconelli on the new Tru-Life swimbaits – "Oh my gosh. That's sick. Those big fish will kill that lure!"
  • Greg Hackney on the new Shakey football-head – "Boys, I'm telling you this will catch 'em. I've tested it and it works great."
  • Denny Brauer on the class itself – "We need to do this every year, but the only tungsten weight we need to carry is my Flippin' weight."
  • Ken Cook on the new weedless dropshot hook – "Guys, I've been fishing this for years. It was my little secret, but it was time to show it off."
  • Ish Monroe on the new 12/0 Ish hook – "Now that's a hook!"
